herbalism

What is it?

Herbal & Chinese Herbal Medicine involves the use of plants and plant extracts to help the body heal and promote better all round health.

What can it treat?

The essence of Herbal Medicine is the treating of each person as a unique individual. This means that the herbal medicines can be of use in the treatment of most HIV related conditions, such as skin, digestive or respiratory problems. Herbal medicines are generally well tolerated by the body and can work over long periods of time for chronic conditions.

What happens at a session?

At the first consultation the practitioner will ask for a detailed and confidential case history from the client. Then they may go on to discuss lifestyle changes, such as diet and nutrition, that may be of help. At subsequent consultations progress will be monitored and changes may be made to the herbs or advice given as necessary.

How do herbs work?

Herbal medicines do not have the aggressive action of some modern synthetic drugs; they are prescribed to improve the functioning of the body's systems to promote a higher level of vitality.

Can I take herbs with other medicines?

Herbal practitioners should always take into account any prescribed drugs that are being taken when they recommend herbal remedies. It is however, strongly advised to check with your HIV  consultant when considering the taking of  any Herbal Medicines.

Warning: There are known possible side-effects and reactions associated with Herbal Medicine when used if you are taking HIV - Anti Retro-Viral Drugs (CombinationTherapy). ALWAYS check with your HIV  consultant when considering the taking of  any Herbal Medicines.
